Northern Lights and Old barn revisited

After the disappointment of this attempt, I was granted a second chance last night Digital noise: Horrid or just obnoxious.

This time I set the ISO at 1600. Proof I can be taught. Although I often wonder how many times I have to be beaten over the head.

An example of how the aurora looked before and after the above two shots. Patience is needed as the bright stuff only lasts seconds to short minutes

Directly overhead, although I missed the best bit by seconds. Hard to remember to keep scanning 360 degrees and overhead

Very nice series Trevor, nothing horrid here.

Alas, although supposedly (and unusually) visible in UK last night, this was apparently not as far south as me

I say 'apparently' because I forgot to go looking anyway

This is the site I use to schedule my outings . Very useful as it gives three days to plan. I am at UTC plus 7 and high latitude http://www.spaceweatherlive.com/en/a...urora-forecast

I will no longer even try unless we have a rating of 5 or higher, 6 is good (these images) 7 great. 8 or 9 is almost too much as the entire sky can be solid light with no veils.

Those are great. Leaving the barn as a silhouette loses nothing.

Learned that from last time as well. There is a bit of light on the barn and stubble, I only slightly enhanced it.

Go on, admit it. You like it!!

Learning is one of life's pleasures. And so is looking at spectacular images. My compliments, he said jealously.

I must. I certainly seem to require it enough. Seems to take a pointed comment or sharp reminder applied with force to get through my thick skull.

Although; my juniour colleague was marveling at how adept, confidant and quick I am in surgery. I told her that I have tried every way of screwing things up over the past 31 years. Sometimes more than once.

Nicely captured, I try to use low ISO if I can, but if it's necessary I'll bump it up as needed. I was always trying to push my camera to the limits anyway, so high ISO became a standard for me for quite a spell.

Fantastic shots. I'm so jealous, the Aurora is on my list (some day)

Amazing shots, Trevor. I particularly like the 4th one, that is an unusual perspective.

Your final shot is how I see the sacred.

I too am jealous, Trevor, but I guess I won't have a chance to catch these kind of shots even in the furthest future because I really do not like going out in very cold and extreme temperatures...I will just look at your images and be happy satisfied it is not me shivering out there...

To enhance your viewing, and simulate the full sensual experience, place your hands and feet in ice water and put a bag of frozen peas on your forehead when viewing the images at full size. Glorious.

Excellent set, Trevor. And much improved regarding the noise. My hat's off to you for getting out there to capture these.

Gorgeous. Well done. What an opportunity! My favorite is the 3rd one, I like that the aurora is subtle and you can see more detail in the barn, but all of them are stunning.

Those are great photos, Trevor, particularly, IMO, the first one.

Here in the UK we had a good display of the lights too, but nothing like you have captured.

Was the visual display as good as your shots? What I saw here was a northern horizon that was much brighter than anywhere else, but I could not see any colour at all and although my latitude is slightly further north than yours all of the display was very much on the horizon.

Sorry to digress; those are great shots.

if you include ripping up 20 dollar bills while standing on a 45 degree slope you also get a fair understanding of sailing.
