Day 02: July 2010 Photo-a-Day Thread

I can't recall what this waterfall is called in Welsh, so I've called it 'the curtains'. I discovered it today, and couldn't believe I haven't been here before - it's only an hour's drive from my house. The height of the water drop is about 15ft, and the experience of just sitting there was pretty amazing. Canon 5D, Canon 24-105L

I prefer the second one, Steve: it has that "bright spot in the subdued space" feel. Very nice.

I really like the fly, Dave: green on green doesn't sound like a recipe for success, but they're different enough that the fly stands out, and it makes a nice background. Very crisp.

Beautiful, Rob. It looks a little "crunchy" (to use the term from "real world sharpening") in the lightbox, but it's gorgeous at full size.

Been back to see the later additions?
The first (the fly) and the fourth (the spider) were quite large crops, so not as sharp as I'd like, but perhaps I'm being too fussy.

I like your drying up stream shot, for the same reasons you do, but (if I'm honest), I think your shooter's remorse is well founded, the foreground log almost forms a barrier to stop you going into the picture. If it is any consolation, I have made the exactly same mistake myself with blurry foreground stuff to add depth. Live and learn ;)

Rob, your absolutely right... As I said earlier 20 secs and they were up for the shot. I rarely deliberately shoot people, and when I do it tends to be spontaneous. This truly was the moment and you have summed it up perfectly.

Also like "Miss T" most from today's bunch (ok, yesterday for you by now).

I think today's prize for the most original, or just plain head scratching, shot must go to Jeroen.

Oh Dave - that's "so yesterday" - heck, I'm waiting in the studio for my 1:30pm clients to turn up for todays shoot! - I reckon it's going to be a "mach 2 with my hair on fire" month :)

Excellent - thanks James. I've decided on NZD$40 per hour without electrical items, and NZD $60 per hour for everything (including me as an assistant) - so that's abot 20 / 30 GBP per hour ... pretty similar (considering I have 5 lights + 40" LED TV + PC + Me).

I've taken the approach that there's no way I'm going to let somone loose with all my gear without me being there ... so since I'm there anyway I'm quite happy to be an unpaid gopher / lighting assistant.

Rob, great shot, I have a thing about waterfalls and like so many entries to CiC I'm in awe of this one!
Is iit Sgwyd y Eira at Pontneddfechan?

If so, I'm now kicking myself. I have regular team teetings down in Cardiff and I managed to sneak a morning last year and got to the Vale of Neath. I'd heard about the valley of waterfalls from some colleagues who are walkers, and decided I owed nmyself the time. I got to Sgwyd Clun Gwyn and Clun Gwladus waterfalls, but didn't have time to go any further. If I'd known Eira was as spectacular as your shot I'd have skived the day!

I'll be back down there in August hopefully, so think I'l make an overnighter!

PAD is certainly bringing out ideas for future shoots!

This is the main place of Setúbal, it's center in fact. The town is only 150 years old as so but it existed much before.
I was in a hurry that day and I couldn't spend too much time on composing, walking around and so...
The picture was shot with the G9 and adjusted in CS and LR
