Old Barn

When out with some friends to shoot fall colours, there was some nice colour once we got about an hour or more north of Lake Ontario. Coming home I stopped along the road at an old barn that I have shot before. It is still looking good, makes for a great B&W with all those nice grey tones in the wood.

Excellent Allan. Did you manage to sneak up and take some detail shots? The stone and wood textures are too good to pass up. Although access can be a problem.

Anyway, I agree monochrome is a good choice. I cannot resist asking if you considered darkening the stone foundation to bring out more texture?

Trevor I did not get close up to get some detail shoots. Grow up on a farm and a fence was not just to keep things in but also out, so I have a hard time crossing that line. Barn was on a busy road and there was a house across the road. Barns in this part of the country are very different than those found in your neck of the country.

I've always found old barns in need of repair to be beautiful in an odd sort of way. That's a nice image and I think the clouds really add to the scene.

I grew up on a farm too so I know how you feel. I make it a point to only shoot close shots on places I know I can enter. Even then I never enter or cross if the crop is still on the field. Most of my shooting in done in fall as a result. Which is alright as I prefer the autumn colours, dry grass and light regime anyway.

I like the building very much - the tones and textures there are wonderful. I'm not sure about the very dark tones in the sky and at the bottom left corner - I find the effect in those areas to be a bit distracting.
