    A tree grows...

I pass by this tree from time to time; the tree is at the edge of a 640 acre (maybe larger) farm field and stands as a lonely reminder of where a house may have once stood. Since we are in the coastal plains, the stunted and misshapen form is from the predominately southeast coastal winds. Note the caracara perched on the tree. C & C always.

I like it Dean, love the caracara too!

I think it would of been nice if you could of had a bit more space on the right of the tree and a little bit of a crop on the left?

Agree with Matt on the space at the right side...also my thought of how Texas looks like out there....long, flat spaces...so different from Dallas or Austin (where are regulars btw)...Very lonely tree. A pity. But you sure caught that loneliness.

I like the image Dean IMO there is too much empty space on the left , I would crop the image from the LHS and try a square frame.

I like it, Dean, but also agree with Matt about the crop.

That tree makes for a great subject.

I like the composition with the space on the left & I agree with Jim, a tree to visit again through the seasons.

Wonderful conversion. In addition to the suggestions already mentioned, consider pulling more detail out of the sky to add just a touch of interest -- not so much interest that it competes with the subject. Alternatively, consider eliminating all detail in the sky.

Dean - This could become your version of Michael Kenna's japanese tree (the one that he photographed many, many times, which eventually died and fell down last year, I think).

I probably wouldn't have any branch touching the edge of the frame, but, otherwise, I like the composition. And, like Kay, I like all that space on one side. But I think there will be many more compositions to be had from this tree.

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I've made a couple of changes--little more room at the right and cleaned the sky slightly.

    Re: A tree grows...

The revised version works much for me for all of the reasons already explained.

Dean, I think your second edit is the better; my only suggestion might be to clone out the (3) telephone poles, doing so removes all vestiges of present day and makes the image much more timeless and placeless.
