    Tiradentes - Colonial Architecture

Some images of the town of Tiradentes, also shot during my recent trip to the area. The name Tiradentes is due to the man who was born in the area and started the national Independence movements. Tiradentes was hanged in 1792, his body was quartered into several pieces. With his blood, a document was written declaring his memory infamous. His head was publicly displayed and pieces of his body were exhibited in the cities between Vila Rica and Rio de Janeiro to terrorize the populace and those who had sympathized with Tiradentes' ideas of independence. The day of his death is still a national holliday. C&C welcomed. Thanks for viewing.

2 - The Main church (Matriz de Santo Antônio). People are not allowed to take pictures inside this church. There is a huge amount (near half a Ton!) of gold applied over the incredibly detailed sculptures. Also, there is a pipe organ from the 18th century. They say only 15 of its kind were manufactured, in Portugal, and this is possibly one of the last still working. They play it every friday night (20:00h).

I like these, specially the last one. Could direita here might mean 'straight' rather than right? It looks very straight.
I also like #3 - what is the window?

(PS Tiradentes sounds like 'pulling teeth'.....)

Thanks for viewing and commenting, Rachel.

No, "Direita" does not mean "Straight". That would apply to "Direta", which is a similar word.

You are right about the meaning of Tiradentes. He was some sort of a "dentist" of that time. So, Tiradentes was his nickname.

By the way, his real name was Joaquim José da Silva Xavier.

    Cheers,

All of them are very enjoyable and the last one has a special sense of intimacy that makes me feel as if I'm walking down the street.

    Nice stuff Otavio!

Seems to be a lot of architectural stuff going on in the Forum right now, which is cool.

So in light of that and on general principles I would like to suggest that from a technical standpoint each of these shots could benefit from some perspective corrections IMO Otavio.

AH, sorry, making assumptions again based on spanish. I do really like the picture though, there's something about it seems familiar, as though I've been there (I haven't)

No problem, Rachel. Too many false cognates between Portuguese and Spanish.

Ah, maybe you have been here in another life!?

Otavio, I think I had terrorized Terry with my recent post...hence his thought here are the carry-over of what he thought of mine. But I agree with him with #1 needing corrections. All your shots are very nice and sharp and I like #4 best.

Hi, Izzie. Thanks for your feedback. It seems #4 is the preferred one from this set. Regards,
