Hello,
When I view your work I like it: To me it was interesting to start at the foreground, and then to continue to the background. There is a lot of interesting sub-parts to view in your work.
A magical capture Joe, well done.
I have three thoughts when viewing this;
i) I wondered whether there was a 'less central' composition available for the peaks we can see? Ideally I think more separation between them and the foreground leaves would be better, so getting them further to right of frame would help, if that were possible somehow. I suggest this as there's not much in the right side of the image, but just cropping that off is too brutal, we need to see the extent of the mist.
ii) If mine, I would tone down (or even clone out) the two brightest leaves in the lower left corner (while retaining most of it because it gives depth to the image)
iii) Again if mine, I would lose some of the sky by cropping 15% or so off the top edge
I appreciate you may disagree with me and that's fine.
Good exposure.
Hope those thoughts help, Dave
But Dave...I like that tiny foreground. It feels like peeking into a giant expanse view of earth to eternity. Lose that and to me, it will just be an ordinary everyday shot but for the clouds covering the other tops of the mountain. (Through Joe, I got to know there are seven of them, if he did not say it, how would I know? I like the intro before the image was shown, just like any image that gives us a hint on the background of the shot. Without that, I get bored easily)...Anyway I am still interested in that little vertical thingie on the top of the little mountain yonder. If not for the narrative, I could easily say it is a cemetery marker or something...or am I being too nosey?
Thanks Dave. I agree with most of your comments.
It was difficult to get a better position for this composition without some rock climbing which I did not want to attempt ( I have a knee problem) so this was the best position I could safely get to. I took other shots of the valley from different viewpoints, but could not get this composition from any other point.
I have cropped some of the sky and darkened some of the leaves in the foreground. I was originally in two minds regarding the leaves; I thought of cropping them all out( there were a lot more in the original) and finally decided to just keep this (sprig?).
Here is my adjusted shot.
Thanks Izzie. I kept the leaves in the foreground for the reason you stated, although I agreed with Dave that some of the leaves were too bright and I have tried to tone them down here. The little 'thingie' on the peak of the mountain is a part of some structure / fortification on the mountain. This area was the border between 3 countries in old Germany 9about 1000 years ago0 and there were 3 castle/forts in the area.
Hi Joe,
Yes, that's what I had in mind.
I don't climb rocks either
I'd like to have been there - there's something special about being above clouds, particularly with your feet on solid ground.
Cheers, Dave
Edited version lokks better Joe
My sentiments exactly! So lucky to have been there to see this. In an hour it was practically gone!Originally Posted by Dave Humphries
