HDR trial image...

Hello everyone,

This is a double trial... I'm actually testing 2 things here : my new camera and my skills in Photomatix.
I would be happy to have your opinions on this, hope my processing work didn't go over the top. I tried a softer version, but was still attracted by this one. What do you think ?

Thank you Donald, actually this image is a little bit to heavy 164 k... I'm trying to find another way to compress it then what I'm using (View NX)

Hi Tamara,

It's difficult to tell how well you are doing with your new camera without seeing the original. As far as the HDR, overall the technique looks good, the tonal range looks interested, the composition looks great, but the clarity of the image suffers in some areas. The text on the sign is clear enough to read but the archway and the grass line near the red sign is a bit fuzzy. How do these areas look in the original?

Some may like the over processed and highly unnatural look; I don’t.

I see some of the fuzziness in the original which transferred to the HDR image, however the tone mapping/post processing improved the washed out look of the sky and pavement just in front of the doorway. Overall, HDR greatly improved the quality of the photograph.

Yes there was a lot of sun that day, I guess that's the reason of the washed out areas. Also when I compare both, the "natural" version was looking too flat imo (don't know it this is the word to use... my english is not perfect

Understood your comment, another phrase would be two dimensional, something we as photographers and artists try to overcome and present our work three dimensionally.
