    Confused over sensor specs

    I have a Nikon D5100 camera.
When I look up the specs on this camera, specifically the sensor, it says, “ 23.6 x 15.6 mm CMOS sensor”.
When I try to set up the Depth of Field calculator, the choices for camera type are:
Digital SLR with CX of 1.6X, 1.5X, 1.3X, and 4/3” sensor.
My problem is how do I convert my spec reading of 23.6 x 15.6 mm to the CX listings.
    Thank you for reading.

CX is a particular Nikon sensor type, used in the Nikon 1 series. That confuses things a little.

Your required setting is probably 1.5X.

Welcome to CiC. Please put your name and location in your profile. We use real names here, and locations can help people give better feedback.

I know nothing about Nikon cameras, but a 35mm "full frame" is 36 x 24 mm, or 35.8 x 23.9 mm. See the table at the end of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format. That means that your camera has roughly a 1.5 crop factor, so you would use 1.5X. Or just enter the camera name into this: http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
