Yes, it was a dull morning, and the orchids were in a booth at the market. I've found that I don't really like shooting florals in the sun - too many shadows and highlights. I like the results I get better in the shade. These were a little dull though and I thought I brightened them up too much.

I am still trawling through these shots from Pines Gardens in Kent. I liked the effect of the water and lily pads rather than the flowers. It is a sausage trying to preserve detail in the white when most of the ground is dark. Well I tried.
I think this one is a matter of taste. It is a little dark and purple looking to me. Not that it's not a good shot. I think it's just me and water lilies, I've never seen a shot of them that I liked.

A couple of beautiful shots Mike. No much more to say really, well exposed and perfectly composed. And here was me thinking you Essex boys were all Ford Capri and furry dice. Excellent work

I know exactly what you mean Wendy. I am never 100% happy with shots of water lilies. They are very difficult to get a good overall exposure in their natural environment. The purple is unintentional and I was striving for a deep blue. This is interesting because they are colours I have difficulty differentiating between. I have the same problem with clothes sometimes. I will have to get WireVixen along in future to make sure I don't send my images out looking as if they have been dressed by Vivian Westwood.

Mike: love both of your shots. These are two that really benefit from viewing in the Lytebox. On my setup this shows them framed in black against a black screen and they look beautiful

Well, when it comes right down to it with all the variables involved there is nothing to say that it is not my screen or my eyes that are wrong. I've never been told that I have trouble with colour blindness, but my screen is not calibrated. They are certainly not in Vivian Westwood territory

I would not worry about your eyes Wendy. I have a know problem with certain shades of colours it is almost certainly my peepers that are defective. I even have to have a separate pair of specs for computer use. They make a massive difference to viewing and I dont get near half as tired especially at work. Problem is I look as if I am about to appraise someones antiques every time I switch specs. The only antique I regularly appraise is WireVixen (I am in trouble now...do MacBooks smash much bone on impact?)

I don't know, are you still here?

Dear Wirevixen, I think he meant it in the nicest way - we would miss him terribly if you took him from us.
I just read his comments about Rob's entry in the mini comp though and I'm thinking if you don't get him Rob might

I use Lightroom for most of my editing which gives me a similar facility, and so does my website. It's amazing the difference it makes.

I haven't been in the site for a while. Here are some wildflowers what you would likely call weeds. The first with the bee is common burdock. The second is common mullein, not an especially attractive plant that grows in dry areas. They grow high say 3-5 feet, and the flowers do not bloom all at once, so they are hard to make look attractive, but I like this presentation. The third is either a wild sunflower or elecampane.

    Cosmos

The Cosmos are finally getting into full bloom, but we will have a frost soon and they will be gone, so I broke down and picked some and put them in a vase for some photos.
