I think you could have improved the shot by getting centre of the flower head, all of the detail on the left doesn't seem to add much. And just using USM sharpen will get it sharper, as you can see in this edit.

Sorry about the C+C that you didn't ask for!
Rob, I am more than happy to have c & c, as I see it as an essential part of the learning curve. Otherwise we'd all still be floundering around in caves, eh. I do need to bone up on sharpening skills. I recently bought Colin's recommendation, the Fraser/Schewe book, but have not had a chance to spend quality time with it.

    Flame of the Forest

Just for a change from roses (they are beautiful, I admit, but we can't grow them really well in the tropics), here is a tropical vine from Papua New Guinea called Mucuna Benettii, or Flame of the Forest. It is a massive liana that grows up inside the canopy of rainforest giants. You often can't see it from afar and have to be under the canopy and looking up to see literally hundreds of these huge racemes that hang like massive bright red lanterns from the underside of the host tree. It is a true tropical and, in Australia is rare south of Cairns.

So I brought you a rose garden instead

You don't bring me Flowers anymore.

And then I thought it was bit too sweet so I toned it down.

I've been going through old photos and my first attempts at the japanese anemone weren't quite as bad as I had felt at first. I don't know if they have that magical "zing" to them but I like them well enough. C&C, please?

Raylee, I've been loving your roses! Here's one that's even further along (but not "grunge", I think. ) The only thing is, I wonder if I have the highlights in the wrong place?

You don't bring me Flowers anymore.

    Maybe this one is better.

You don't bring me Flowers anymore.

The trouble is, I'm thrilled with the bunch of photos that I took when they're together but not so charmed when they're on their own.

Here they are on flickr if anyone is atall interested. http://www.flickr.com/photos/5091425...n/photostream/

Katy, I think these are very nice. They would look lovely textured, and you could bring out some of the highlights, where you want them.

    That's it! You're a genius!!!

I'm trying to weigh weather I should get into PS in December (there's a class being offered) or January. On the one hand, I try to keep December simple. On the other, I can't wait!

Oh, thank you. Here's a link to some roses I "antiqued" --

I'm going to finally break down and take an online community college PS class -- there's so much to know (and so much I don't know), and the difference between someone who's skilled and someone who's not (me) is so obvious . . .

    Just a thought, Katy?

You might present the shots you like together, well, together. In other words, create a digital frame of your choice (landscape, portrait, square, whatever) and arrange your shots inside that frame the way that most does it for you. Make the background any color you like that you think sets your shots off the best.

Personally, I enjoy seeing this kind of presentation and I think your shots would look great arranged this way because I think they look great alone.

I think it would even make for a nice print if you were so inclined.

The colours and textures are beautiful. With the first one, I'd like to see the centre rose emphasised in some way with PP. Not sure what - you'll just have to experiment. In the second I'm distracted by the texture of the carpet/fabric. Again some PP to lessen its impact. But like I said, magnificent colours and I can feel the dry petals.
