    Two very different waterfalls

The two waterfalls shown below in North Carolina's DuPont State Recreational Forest are only a 30-minute walk from each other. (While making that walk, yet another larger waterfall is also seen.) Even so, the settings and moods of the two waterfalls are so different that I chose very different methods on several levels of photographing them.

Very nice Mike, love the different treatments and they work very well, the first with the water not smooth shows off the power and I can almost hear the noise and see the drama, the second is smooth and flows in a much more relaxed way - more tranquil

I rather like the natural look of #1...and you already know how I feel about smooth milky shots.

Number 1 for me. A waterfall is water coming down a cliff. The smooth shot is good to look at, but a waterfall is real. Number 1 is exiting, number 2 is nice. That is only my opinion.
    Cheers Ole

As I've written before, I'm not a big fan of the smooth water effect in a scene such as this. But that's me and is not a reflection on what is a very well crafted image. If you look at the water flow as an abstract, it does feature a lovely series of strips of different colours and hues.

As for the other image. the lighting in that is just gorgeous. The reflection of light on the wet rocks is beautiful and really anchors the image.

    Hi Mike,

    Beautiful series of waterfalls.

I'd have said the same with Mark and Donald.

Beautiful shots Mike. I also like the other posts you have as well.

I do like the silky water look and in #1 I find the tree is interesting and makes for a different type of look.

As always, great images... However, I especially love High Falls, very different, gorgeous detail and simply beautiful!
