The Dancing Lights

Last month, I went to Reykjavik Iceland for vocation and grabbed almost the last chance to witness the 'Aurora Borealis'.

The northern lights take place on an 11-year solar cycle. However, after next year, they are going to be much more difficult to see because we are at the beginning of a downward leg of the solar cycle.

According to the web, auroral displays appear in many colours although pale green and pink are the most common. Anyone knows what lights are those on the bottom right of picture #1?
Settings: Nikkor 24-70mm (24mm), f/2.8, ISO1000, 15s.

I don't know if you've seen some of the images that Trevor (tbob) has been posting lately. As you say, It seems as if the Auroro Borealis has indeed been spectacular these last couple of months.

Can't help with the lights at the bottom right on the first image.

Leslie - when I look at your first image, it appears to have been take before sunset, with the setting sun behind a cloud.

The bright spot is likely just a area illuminated by the sunlight and the brightness exaggerated by the long exposure required to capture the aurora.

Except that there are no mines in Iceland. The closest they have to mining is an aluminum smelter in that part of the country.

Streaks are likely car headlights. There are certainly some street lights and lights from houses, in addition to a bit of ambient light from the sun.

I guess that must be the moon behind the clouds. I was wondering why the aurora was so bright before sunset (a duh! moment on my part).

I've been through Reykjavik a total four times and every time I was there the sky was 100% overcast and rain was always in the air. My trips were always in the summer (July and August) and not a hope of seeing the aurora as it never got really dark.

No hope for aurora but plenty of puffins!
I was there 7 nights but only one night the sky was partly cloudy.
