Hi Terry,
If I may, the intent of your image, is to experiment with flash how to show best your family room.
Thanks
Where's the tv?
This one is a bit different from your previous experiment Mbr, in the MBR there are no shadows shown, in this image you've included shadows which I think gives the shot more depth; crop is still a bit severe. Is 20mm the minimum focal length you have?
Hi Terry,
I won't get in to the technical aspects, you're way ahead of me there.
As a viewing experience, the following thoughts occurred to me;
a) The image on the TV is of a brightness and clarity that it looks like a picture illuminated by the light in the room. (Not surprised Izzie overlooked it)
b) The view out the window seems too dim and is also the exact same colour temperature (CT) of the lighting in the room, despite this being obviously mixed - even if you have got every light source daylight balanced, in this portrayal, it doesn't aid realism, we expect 'outside' to be a different CT - we could argue time of day and whether it should be cooler or warmer, and also that most of light in room is also from outside (supposedly)
c) I note the fire is a realistic looking CT though
d) I'd like to have seen it a bigger
e) I like the top right corner placement
f) I'd rather like to see more on left; e.g. the back of the sofa, even if there is a cat perched there
g1) The window in shot looks 'artificial'; like a picture of a window hung there, I can't elucidate the problem; CT issues, focus/DoF, brightness of inside vs outside, etc.
g2) Actually, I can; I just noticed horizontal banding, which I assumed was a blind, but I think it is mostly a moire effect at this image size, because the 'slats' are parallel to image edges (and shouldn't be)
Probably more than you (and I) expected there - but no one said it would be easy
Hope that helps, Dave

Hi Dave! Thanks for the detailed analysis. I appreciate you taking the time to do it.
Yeah, I stuck a photo on the TV just for my own amusement! I should’ve gone with a black screen and gradient of some sort!
Can’t say about the window. It’s the real deal with no color correction with the exposure for the outside. I really should have probably opened the blinds all the way or closed them all the way. Though I have seen some shots with the louvers open as these are.
For some reason I’m under the impression that with a composition of this sort the third wall behind the couch is not supposed to be in the shot. Could be a bad impression. I’m not 100% on that.
It was more than I expected Dave but I want to thank you for it. This is the kind of feedback I need.
Certainly no one said it would be easy for sure but if it were I probably wouldn’t do it! It would appear I’m a glutton for punishment cause I’m getting plenty of it!
I really only meant so the sofa wasn't 'cut off' like that, bit like avoiding cutting a person in a portrait at a joint.
I didn't realise how close the wall on left would be and agree that if that were in shot, it would introduce a whole new set of issues.
Always glad to help, Dave
