    Over the top HDR

This is my second attempt at HDR and really still just experimenting. This is 5 exposures at 1 stop intervals. I tried to get a natural look but I just couldn't do it without the foreground and train remaining dark with no detail. I may of needed more than just 5 stops of exposure. So when all was said and done I just went with the over done HDR look. I still have the RAW original so I may keep trying to get a more natural result with it.

How are you doing the HDR, Dave?

I have tried several programmes but wasn't happy with any of them; so now I stack my layers, auto align them and merge together 'by hand' with masks on the layers.

Geoff, I'm using Coral AfterShot 2 Pro which has a HDR function as well. I did notice I can also stack layers with AfterShot so I may try that also. Can you point me to a post here with an example of how yours turned out.

    Re: Over the top HDR

I don't think I can find one of my HDR shots quickly but many of my images are two or three different conversions from one Raw file which are then merged together with layers and masks.

Not true HDR but it does allow you to stretch the limits a little.

This is a typical shot and edit from me, where subject movement would make multiple shots impossible but I needed to stretch a single shot to bring out some cloud detail etc. Hence two conversions from the one Raw shot.

Very nice, seems to capture what the human eye would see.

Nicely processed, I often find that only one stop above is all that is necessary, otherwise the tonemapping gets very strange looking, but some like the very dramatic look of HDR. Keep at it.
