Helpful Posts: This woman was sitting in front of a shop in the town of Mongar in Eastern Bhutan and was winnowing rice. This operation removes the outer, indigestible husks. The rice is placed in the shallow basket and is thrown into the air. The wind catches the husks and blows them away, while the grains of rice fall back into the basket.
The cleaned rice is then put in the large bag sitting camera left.

Kind of. The entrance to the shop was a step or two above road level and she was on the wider part of the step.

In the Mekong Delta of (what was then) South Vietnam, they would cast their rice on the road and let the vehicle tires husk it...

+ 1 to Binnur's suggestion. But short of that have you cropped the bottom of the frame, Manfred? Could you extend a touch to show a bit more of the husks on the ground?

Having been raised in the rice environment, I have seen many winnowing in the old days...they are a pleasure even just to watch...but my grandparents shooed me away because of the dust. It would have been nice to see a shot of that as nowadays they use a machine to separate the husks from the grain...

Unfortunately, I couldn't show any more without affecting the composition in a negative way. The shot is cropped at the edge of the step the woman was sitting at, so pulling the shot towards the bottom any further would show more step, not more husks. There are lots of husks camera right, but none camera left. Showing the husks there would have had a negative impact on the image balance. Originally Posted by mugge
Here is a SOOC jpeg. I was standing camera left from this shot. You can just see the leg of the younger woman in the original shot (bottom left of the image) and you can see the edge of the step I was shoot towards there too. The two shots are taken almost 90 degrees apart from each other.
