    Red and Blue

I was sitting on the couch this morning enjoying my second cup of coffee and glanced out the window into my Maple tree (in full color) and saw this guy. My natural reaction to this scene was to grab my camera and start shooting. I was just showing my wife some other shots I had taken on a recent Elk hunting trip and had my camera right there. I guess even a blind squirrel find an acorn once in a while.

It's a Steller's Jay. There are several that show up, along with the Scrub Jays, to our backyard feeder.

Welcome back Brian...you seem to come and go...how are your duck hunting going lately? This picture pops of colour. I particularly like your maple tree colour and goodness me! that Blue Jay is the blue-st I have ever seen. We have a different variety here in the Midwest and got 4 of them at one stage in my feeder....as long as I got peanuts in a separate feeder they will come...one day I will just have to go up my kitchen sink and photograph from there...they are very colourful. I love them. I have not seen one as beautiful as your breed here...and my maple hasn't gone to that reddish point yet...

Thanks, Izzie. I haven't been shooting much (with my camera or my shotgun). I went on my first elk hunt last week. Not as a shooter, but as a helper. Eastern Oregon is absolutely beautiful scenery and, unfortunately, we only got one elk for 3 hunters. I will clean up some photos and post them shortly. Duck hunting is just starting up and I will be going for the 2nd time next week. I always take my P&S camera and get some shots I deem worthy. I'll probably be posting a little more now that I will be out and about in the back country.
