Is that horn defensive/functional? nice image![]()
It's a Unicorn fish, a member of the Surgeonfish family. Only the males grow the 'nose' but I have no idea what else it is for other than to attract the females. It's downside is that the fish has to change its diet because the nose prevents it from browsing algae its preferred food.
That is absolutely fascinating. The power of this forum to educate as well as entertain always amazes and excites me. Not only is it a very good pic, but it has shown me something about which I knew nothing and which I'll never have the chance to see for myself.
