Well done Barry ... now all you need to do is add one of the images to the appropriate thread each day!

These are all Auto Focused, so no hassle there, just snap a few and pick the sharpest, practice makes you better at choosing which bit to put the focus point on.

I am thinking the bugs are getting a bit repetitive, so perhaps I'll try a flower or two, sorry, in our garden; a weed or two.

Expected sharpness? Well, as you say, it is no sharper than the other one really.
Ease of Use; I have died and gone to heaven! AF works 90% of time and exposure is also right most of time, the result is I miss far, far, far less shots with this AF-S macro lens than I did with the manual AI (on D5000).

    Cheers,
Hi Dave: Sorry for the very late reply. I really appreciate you taking the time to report on this lens, and i don't mean to be rude, it's just been terribly busy.

By the sounds of it you really like the lens. I must say that if you are shooting handheld with such a small focus point you must be steady as a rock, because what is in focus is very sharp.

I've been reading up on the macro tutorials, and it seems what I've been thinking of as macros are more than likely just close ups. I've never done any shots at a 1:1 magnification or where a tiny bug will fill the screen. I was not aware how tight DOF became regardless of f stop at these magnifications.

Anyway, long story short, I think I will try out this lens as soon as I have a chance (this weekend, or early next week) I know the store has them in stock, and I believe the price was close to 900 CDN.

You and Mike have demonstrated that it is a good lens, and it seems you both like it. I can see by your shots that you must be very very happy with the 70-300 too.

Thanks again for the update. I'm still watching
    Wendy
