You just know that when the overall quality of entries is high, the voting is going to be scattered all over the place, with no one or two images streaking away into the lead. And so it proved to be this month.

Once we got our little hiccup with one entry out of the way, we got down to the business of counting the votes for the 'real' entries. And ...................................

There are lots of tree-lined entrances to plantations in the southeastern U.S., so much so that that type of scene is iconic.

Mike - we have one location here that is almost exactly the same but it took a smashing 2-3 winters ago. Have not been around that area in recent years (no birds that I want) so not sure if it has recovered. Where did you get yours ??

Congratulations to Chantell, Mike and eveyone that took the time to enter. This is a first for me (getting a top three place) the quality of the images on here has made me go away and rethink, study and practise. Thank you for pushing me and then confirming I'm going in the right direction.

The avenue of trees is about an hour away from Charleston, South Carolina. I've seen one other far more famous plantation closer to Charleston with a similar entrance and I've been told that many plantations in the southeast U.S. have those entrances.

You mentioned that the winter hurt the one in your area. What is the tree species? I ask because in the Charleston area the species is live oak. They are quite old, huge, hearty trees that survived a really horrible hurricane a couple of decades ago. They seem nearly indestructible, though they certainly aren't subject to the winter conditions in your area.
