    Sunrise

I've been trying to improve upon taking better sunrise shots. This one was taken 1/50sec ISO 100 44mm with a inexpensive UV filter, mirror down and camera resting on something solid. I used LR to add a little more exposure to the bottom third and less on the top third. I suspect there are some basic things that could be done without the purchase of filters to improve the photo. Although if there is a filter that would significantly improve upon things that would be also helpful to know. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Nothing wrong with the shot, I think the issue is more with the cloud cover and how it blocks most of the sun rays. You could try other filters but I'd just wait until you get a more promising sky, with this image it's more about the atmosphere than the sunrise.

This is a nice image; probably some other instance would have given more lighting on clouds....

Thanks Nandakumar, I agree. Seems like the clouds have potential if more color and contrast was present.

It's a beautiful image whatever the cloud cover. I like the slightly muted colours and the rays of sunlight peeking through the cloud and shining across the hill

Hi Sam, very nice image I have made a very quick edit just to give you an idea if you don't mind. I cropped the image from the bottom, made some hue and saturation adjustments, cleaned some distracting bits , reduced the highlights and added some contrast. The colors can be adjusted to one's taste, because it was a quick edit I actually didn't spend much time on the colors. BTW please let me know if you want me to remove the image.

Very impressive. The changes really catches your eye. I like the color and contrast changes too. You are very creative. Thanks for spending the time and showing me what is possible. I'll start trying these types of things later today. Feel free to edit my photos anytime. Best regards - Sam

I like both of them Sam..you have the eye there for composition...the sun peeking through the clouds is really very good although I feel that is not what you want...maybe give it another try another day as the sun is peeking up some more with just a few clouds?? You took this image at around 8am as your EXIF shows...maybe wait a little bit more? I also like the edit of Binnur, very pronounced effects.

Thank you so much for the complement. I'll try the things you suggested. Binnur's edit provided a much better effect especially applying more contrast. BTW, how do find the EXIF from posted photos? Best regards, Sam

Sam looking at it again, I've kind of changed my mind about the clouds... It works for me, and I do like Binnurs edit.

I am using Google Chrome so I googled a viewer to find what works for my browser. Whatever your browser is, search for one that suits yours. Mine is called EXIF viewer. I think it was Ikanyesi who told me that.
