Yes, Tim, I'd say they've got you worked out! Love the second one, looks like she's taking a peek from behind the stem.
P.S. Some birds will abandon the nest (and the next generation) if they don't feel completely safe. Apologies if you already know that.
Tis a perfectly rational thought process...we do tend to eat fowl.if they don't feel completely safe.
Every one will be relieved that no Grebes were eaten during the taking of these shots.

These are both funny shots...the duck probably thought it better watch if you will come and catch her/him for the Peking pot. While you think "Yum!" s/he thinks "" I like both expressions on the faces.
these made me smile, nice shots
Hi Chris,
I value your point about disturbing the wildlife very highly. These were two shots amongst a few dozen that I took while waiting for the shot I wanted. I have cropped the living daylights out of them to try and make them funny.
The shots were taken with a 300mm prime lens with a 2x teleconverter. I was a good 60 feet away from the nest, and hidden behind bushes.
I feel very confident that the birds were not disturbed, but what you say has very high value, and should be said more often.
If chasing a mere photograph might cause these birds to abandon the nest, we must retreat.
Funny shots![]()
Cool shot.
