    Desert Beauty

White Pocket, Arizona. Barren, contorted, colorful and extremely beautiful. Recent rains had left pools in the rocks. They had tadpoles and fairy shrimp living in them. Everywhere you look in this landscape there are new textures and colors. There is a spiritual quality about this place.

Wish I could. It is a long way in and we didn't have time to stay until sunset.

Back from one of your travels again, Chuck? You always comes up to expectations everytime you upload an image. Very nice textures here. I particularly like that you included a little pocket of a rockpool there even if I still have to google what a fairy shrimp looks like. That pool breaks all the reds in the image. This is beautiful.

Good to see one of your images again, Chuck.

That's an image that has GOT to be viewed in the Lightbox. When I first saw it in the thread I was not that impressed, but when I opened it up and it was larger and had the black background ... WOW!

It's a fantastic composition. Makes a huge impact. There's no way you'd walk past that if it was hanging in a gallery. Gorgeous textures and shapes. But most of all, the composition shows them all off in a way that conveys a real sense of the barren landscape.

I agree with Donald, but I wish it had just a tiny bit more sky!

I sure do like the leading lines beginning in the lower left corner.

Though I agree that this would also look great in black-and-white, if you're fascinated with the various tonalities of red rock country as displayed in this image, that characteristic can only be displayed in color.

    Another outstanding shot, Chuck!

Every time I look at one of your images I remind myself that I've got to get out the the Western USA one of these days. Somehow it is always high on the "places to go" list, but somehow we never get there because we end up somewhere else.

Donald is quite right. One has to open this image in Lightbox to really appreciate it. I'm also thinking that Matt is right; the crop is a bit tight on top and a touch more sky would probably help.

Do you mean amphibian tadpoles and fairy shrimp, or tadpole shrimps? The latter seem more likely on a place like that.

John, I mean amphibian tadpoles and fairy shrimp. They are all ready to bread whenever there is water present.
