I don't know your body or the shooting distance, but with a macro lens, f/11 would get much of the creature in focus as long as it is parallel to the sensor. I generally shoot bugs at f/13 or so with a 100mm macro, often with tubes, on a crop-sensor body. That's less DOF than I would like but often enough. In your first one, I'm guessing that the twig in the middle is just forward of the eyes and that the one lower and further right is considerably back from the eyes. If that guess is right, it suggests that the issue isn't just DOF but also that the point of focus was a bit farther back than ideal.
