Nice shots and good captures. I don't recall ever seeing a dragonfly with wings quite like that here. Gorgeous.

I don't know your body or the shooting distance, but with a macro lens, f/11 would get much of the creature in focus as long as it is parallel to the sensor. I generally shoot bugs at f/13 or so with a 100mm macro, often with tubes, on a crop-sensor body. That's less DOF than I would like but often enough. In your first one, I'm guessing that the twig in the middle is just forward of the eyes and that the one lower and further right is considerably back from the eyes. If that guess is right, it suggests that the issue isn't just DOF but also that the point of focus was a bit farther back than ideal.

Thanks for the tips. I would liked to have used my 60mm macro lens but could not get any closer than about 15' without frightening it and so the image is quite a heavy crop. When the firmware release 4.0 for the E-M1 is released towards the end of this month the camera will be capable of taking a composite image of four frames focus stacked - so if the subject keeps still enough the DOF should be much better.
