    Contortions

I like to be able to explain what might have caused rock formations to look like they do as I roam around in nature. Sometimes it seems quite obvious. But the structure of the rocks in this photo defies an explanation by me. I'm pretty sure it was something dramatic. Be sure to look at in the large version.

It defies scale to me - I cannot say whether I am looking at something a few feet across or several thousand.

Dare I mention the 'A' word?

Dave, I'm not sure we use the same A word. :-) That you cannot determine the scale is not a surprise. But if you look carefully at the sandy area in the center of the photo there a two yucca plants, each about two feet tall. I decided to go for texture in this photo and not put a familiar object in the frame. I will post another one that might help with scale. Appreciate you feedback.

Here is a shot of the same area from a different angle. I hope this will help with scale.

A troubling image indeed; it looks more like cut wood surfaces than rocks

Wow! Huge! I will be overwhelmed by this one...I'll show this one to our visitor that will pass by tomorrow...he is from that area. This year is his time to go this way as we went to his area (Michigan/Wyoming) last year...

Thanks for the second image - although I'm not sure how I overlooked the yucca's
