    Tawny Frogmouth chick

This little chick has been left to fend for itself and hasn't yet found a safe haven for daytime siestas. The Noisy Miners and Butcher birds gave it a hard time today. It eventually rook refuge in a Jacaranda tree.

Oh..the poor thing. Why was she left behind, Richard? The background on the last two are overexposed but you are able to keep the bird sharp...how does this one eat? Can it fly down and forage for itself?

It is fully fledged and can fly, but being nocturnal it needs to find a shady spot where it can blend in for the daylight hours. So mum & dad said it's time to leave home now you know it all - good luck. It eats insects, lizards and the eggs and chicks of other birds so it's not too popular with smaller birds.

The sun was getting low in the sky so the side where I could see all the bird made it a bit of a silhouette, I didn't want to get too close to disturb it.

Great ; it appears as if the bird has covered with a layer of the skin of that wood.... a camouflage effect

Nice set, Richard. I'd always thought owls hid themselves during the day - because they are nocturnal. But we have a couple here who lodge themselves in the branches of a palm tree during the day. They're a bit less obvious that this little one, though.
