    Konso children

I was just going over some of the shots I took on a trip to Ethiopia exactly two years ago. This image is of some of the children from the Konso ethnic group from the southern part of that country, who followed us as we walked through their village. These walled villages (that's one of the wall) are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nice concept, however the children are almost lost in the textures of the wall; perhaps an artistic statement of their conditions?

You caught my intent with this image. Normally one takes pictures of people by carefully isolating them from their surroundings. My intent here was to suggest that the Konso group are very much part of the strange and magnificent environment that they created for themselves. They are one with their high, stone-walled villages.

The more closely you look at the individual children the more your vision becomes apparent.

The fact that you didn't cram them all together (as is the usual recommendation), allows their individualism to shine forth- very clever use of space.
