When Carlino was found on the streets of San Diego, he had a severe infection of his gums. The only solution was to send him to a canine dentist (yes there are such people) and have his teeth removed followed by a regimen of antibiotics. He does very well with no teeth as long as his food is comparably soft.
There is a problem in photographing him though. His tongue tends to slip out from between his lips.
And other times, when I caught him with his mouth closed, his lips were curled up in a grimace...
However, with patience, I did get some acceptable shots of Carlino...
This one with his tongue out doesn't look too bad. In fact it makes him look happy...
