New guy from Chicago area

Hello all,

New member to the forum, fairly new to the world of photography. Picked up a Nikon D5100 back in 2013 to photograph an impending bundle of joy, as well as travel and an overall interest in photography. I've since added a Sigma 18-200mm -"all in one" lens for traveling, and a Yongnuo 565EX for illumination. I just picked up PS Elements 14, prior to that I used freeware such as Picasa and Gimp. I've had an interest in photography from a young age, but am now trying to learn more about composition and lighting, and do more than fire off snapshots.

I've migrated here from another forum that's gone dormant, and I'm happy to be here as the crowd seems very friendly and helpful. So thanks for having me!

Haha, I get some good natured smack talk whenever the Bears and Saints play. A lot of Colts fans here too, so I get to rub it in on them

I guess I should add I'm a New Orleans native that migrated in 05.

Welcome and looking forward to seeing some of your images, you may already have a natural insight for composition and just need help with other aspects of photography.

Thanks Shadowman. When I stop to think, I can pop out a decent capture, but I'm usually running and gunning and just getting snaps. When I get to a computer (on phone now) I'll post up some images from Flickr.

A tripod will make you think of your shots...your composition...instead of snapping quick just because you can...anyway, welcome to CiC if I have not welcomed you yet...I am sure I did in another post, the one with an image...

Firstly; welcome to the CiC forums from me too.

I assume Sam is your name, although the image has "JGriffin" in the corner.

Since we tend to use first names here, being such a friendly bunch, as you're already discovering, it would be helpful if you could click Settings (right at the top),
then Edit Profile (on left)
and put your first name in the Real Name field
then click the Save Changes button below and to right,
this helps everyone give you more personal and relevant answers - thanks in advance.

Thanks, the "JGriffin" was an ill conceived attempt to start watermarking my "work". I've since dropped it off. Will stick with Sam.
