I too am not satisfied with the last image, a Northern Shoveler. This one was a bit far & thus used TC 1.4x on my 100-400.
Guess winter haze played its role too. Just tried to correct a bit using photoshop.

Izzie, I have been very lazy in Photoshop. I guess joining the forum is helping me getting on to taking PP more seriously. Great to keep receiving your inputs...

This one looks better . If you have PS CC, there is a 'dehaze' slider in ACR which might help you to reduce haze in your images when you need
