    Sandhill Cranes In Fog

I was at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge recently photographing birds. Just as the sun broke the horizon I came upon these Sandhill Cranes in the morning fog. The refuge is located in New Mexico and the trees and grass still had fall colors. I found the shooting conditions challenging but enjoyed the scene. Best if you look at the enlarged version.

Beautiful scene, well caught. You have captured some great light here, Chuck.

I can see this as a large print mounted on a wall, perhaps with a quote from someone like Henry David Thoreau - "This world is but a canvas to our imagination" - in a nice classic font, added to the scene in the foggy area to the right of the tree.

You may just have to remove the tail end of the bird and its reflection in the foreground at the far right. Apart from that, wouldn't change a thing!

    Beautiful.

Excellent image Chuck. Great scenery, great lighting and a touch of fog all packaged together in one really compelling shot!

Chuck, may I point out a few mistakes you have made. When I can fully collect my thoughts.

Awesome shot. Nicely seen and captured. I need to get down there one of these years.

That's glorious Chuck. Love the colour. Love the atmosphere introduced by the mist.

    Wonderful mood!

I agree about removing the partial bird and reflection on the far right side.

Very nice image - takes me back to grad school at UNM and weekend visits to the Bosque, always followed by the best green chili cheese burger and a beer afterwards at a little dive bar there (the Owl Bar and Grill or some such if i recall?). I really like the warm treatment here, the only thing you might want to think about is cropping the right a little to get rid of what looks like some foreground foliage that is distracting.

Thank you Chris. I have removed the bird butt for the original photo. Thanks for pointing that out. I like your idea for a quote. I have never considered that before.

I have removed it from the original. Helpful observation. Thanks.

Am I late here again? I like the drama/mood of the your shot. It tells a story on its own...
