    Waiting for the Red Rocket

Here in Toronto, for many years, our streetcars have been called Red Rockets, because of their red with beige trimmed paint jobs.
Last winter, while downtown on a cold wet and slushy day, I noticed a group waiting in a public transit shelter for the streetcar to arrive.
The composition seen through the filthy pane seemed to represent the feeling of a really miserable winter's day.

I do like it without really knowing why.

    Thanks for the comments.
    Ole,
You probably like it because you weren't there.

What a depressing shot, Robert. Having grown up in Toronto, all I can say is "been there, done that, didn't like it". I think you have captured all three of those (especially that one) in your image.

    Manfred,
"Depressing" or one of it's synonyms was the feel I was going for.
The weather we have in winter is the weather we have in winter. I've lived here all my life, so I really don't know any different.
You on the other hand, grew up here, but now live in the Tropical Paradise that is our nation's capital.
I've been there in winter. Never did see any palm trees.
    Thanks for the comments.

Yes, but I grew up, got a job and bought a car, so public transit is no longer a "must have".

I agree the winter weather tends to be less pleasant up this way and the public transit system is definitely inferior to Toronto's.

    Manfred,
I don't remember the last time I used Public Transit.
I get up at 5:00 am to be at work by 6:00 except of course for those occasions once per month when I must be at work by 2:30 am.
If I had to use Markham Transit and then Transfer to the TTC, I'd probably have to get up at 2:00 or 3:00 am on a regular day keeping in mind that the buses don't even run on the industrial street where I work until about 3:30 on weekdays so I'd also have a mile or so walk as well. So an automobile for me is not a luxury, but a necessity.
I won't argue whether Ottawa or Toronto has worse weather, but truly, I am mystified by your comment that Ottawa's Public Transit System is inferior to Toronto's. Unless yours consists of a couple of open wagons drawn by oxen, is that even possible????

Nice shot, Robert, I think it captures the mood you were after. I think I would try a bit of cloning along the bottom edge to remove the bottom of the pane, and make the film uniform across the whole image.

    Greg,
    Thanks for the comments.
Sometimes the effort to change a small point in a shot far outweighs the benefit from doing so. I thought about your suggestion but didn't feel it would improve the shot.

You have nicely captured the feeling of waiting for the red rocket in the Big Smoke. Nice image.
