    Fog, river and kayakers

I caught this scene after seeing the the fog on the river while crossing the bridge yesterday, and then the kayaks showed up to make a better scene I think. I've cropped part of the top and bottom but wanted to maintain the width of the image for scale. Not sure I've go this quite right yet but i'm going for subtle and mysterious. Hints or suggestions how to handle the fog in the scene?

Looks like an endless journey, nicely captured.

Looks pretty good to me Chris,

They are in almost the ideal place compositionally - arguably, they could be 'clone moved' just a (very) little further to the right. I might also have left a (very) little more along the bottom edge, assuming that didn't bring in anything 'untoward'.

This scene needs to be subtle - and it is.

    Cheers, Dave

Thanks for the comments. Dave - I'd be hesitant to digitally move the boats, that starts to tread on thin ice for me, and I think technically it becomes challenging because you can make out the slight ripples and wake in the water behind the kayakers that would have to be dealt with. However, here's the same scene about 1 frame earlier, without the cropping so you can see what having the kayaks a bit further right does and with a little more of the bottom of the image. I took off perhaps 5% of the total frame height from both bottom and top (5% each) in the original.

Yes, the second option for me as well.

I agree--a very nice image, and the second is better. And as a moderately serious kayaker faced with many months before it will be warm enough here again, this makes makes me nostalgic. When I lived closer to you (Maryland), I could go out well into November. Not here.

When you have ripples I suggest you need to select ripples and boats I like the second for the sense of direction of the craft.

Yes, it's not for everyone, that's why I said 'arguably'.

However, the second image solves the problem entirely, that's now my favourite too.

If the two kayakers were surrounded by fog, I would eliminate everything else and just have them as the subject.
