    Hi Griddi, it is a cactus. A rather large one. A ray of light was hitting the middle of it while the foreground was in a bit of shadow.

    Thanks Nandakumar. I had to google opuntina - which I know as 'prickly pear'. It is a cactus but not a prickly pear. I don't know what species it is, but it is fairly common in gardens here and grows quite large.

    I knew it was a cactus but I kept missing this post. This is the third time I found this and will not let it go again before I comment...just too many things happening at the same time here...forgetting is what I am good at, at this time of the year... anyway, enough of my excuses, moving on...I really like this shot very much...creative at its best and very simple...well done I should say in short.

    So simple yet so much in depth to it. Love the inter play of light highlights and shadows. Very interesting. Like it muchly.When I first opened it my eye was immediately drawn to the lower part of the frame which registered on my old brain as the cutting edge of a circular saw. How silly is that? Just shows how 'cactus' is my perception now! LOL
