    Gronyes at Sandsend

A long exposure, using a Lee ten stop filter, the white mark on the horizon is (I think) a ferry heading for Newcastle but...I could be wrong. As always your thoughts/comments on the two images would be welcome.

Nicely composed and executed image. Posting the color and B/W together provides good insight into how the eye/mind work. In the color image, the pilings immediately draw my attention. In the B/W my eye goes to the rocks/patterns in the lower part of the frame. Well done.

+1 to Dan. I had the same experience in viewing the two versions. I notice there appears to be some kind of 'outline' around teh shadows in the b&w which are not quite so noticeable in the colour version

Yes, I was peering at that too

If I were to guess; I'd say that the contrast enhancement in the B&W has exaggerated the sharpening halos, especially if the colour was saved as a jpg and that was (re?)opened in the image editor and then converted (and saved as jpg again).

Looking at the images, I feel the need to see something on the horizon or in the sea, about 1/3 across from the left.

Nice light and shadows - I prefer the colour one Peter.
I think you chose a good shutter speed, it has retained some detail of the waves on the sand and stones.

    Cheers, Dave

A couple of very interesting shots, Peter.

I think this is one of those rare instances where the monochrome and colour shots are almost equally as good. The colour shot has a fairly limited colour range, but that little bit of simplification of going the B&W definitely changes the characteristic of the image and has us looking at it differently. That being said, I definitely prefer the coloured version.

I suspect that the image would be even stronger if you had less sky in the shot. If it were my image, I'd look at trimming between 1/3 and 1/2 of the sky.

I prefer the colour version even if the B/W is good too...and I agree with both the comment of Greg and Dan here. +1 to each.

I prefer the color Peter and I agree with Manfred about cropping 1/2 of the sky

Hi Peter, I have the mirror image taken from the other side of the Groyne. I also agree with Manfred's suggested crop with perhaps a bit cropped from the RHS as well. Prefer the colour to the mono and prefer both to my effort. Nice image.

Me too, especially on the b&w version. The sky is a little blank in monochrome and detracts from the patterns of the land.

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions, much appreciated.
Sorry I've not responded earlier, life and stormy weather seem to have overtaken the time I have available to visit here and photography in general.
