Winter Fun - Echoes of L. S. Lowry (Perhaps??)

Not sure where to put this. Taken at the Salzburg ice rink. Conceived as a contemporary image but perhaps not quite like this. It just developed as I processed it. It sort of reminded me of Lowry's "Matchstick Men".

Nice concept, perhaps a toning down of the red figure in foreground although it does give it an electrifying look.

I can see why this image evokes LS Lowry. Nice work, John, I like the blur in this shot. The only thing that detracts from it, is that the foreground figure (in red) appears to be headless. But then again, that could be the very feature that makes the image famous: John's 'Headless Skater'.

    Hi.
What I like most is the contrast between focus (cyan girl, texture on ice floor) and blurred (red girl, other characters in the background) items. Moreover, the texture in the foreground (stripes on ice) gives the picture a solid and consistent feeling, in neat contrast with the smoky, airy atmosphere in the upper part of the scene (especially the sky and building roofs).

I really like this image, would look great in large format hanging on a wall.

    Thanks all for the feedback.

John/Greg, the FG figure was a surprise. The red is a bit bright I guess but it's the feathery blur that was a surprise. The blur was created in camera using a slow shutter speed and the fisheye but why there is the fore and aft effect puzzles me although I don't dislike the effect.

Thanks Filgalli. The effect is totally created by the fisheye. Because the lens exaggerates perspective, the blurring quickly becomes less pronounced the further away you are from the camera. Something this shot has taught me. Could be a useful compositional tool.

Dave, My wife keeps asking for some images to hang as staircase group. I'm not quite happy wth this but maybe.......

    Glad you liked it Kim.
