Day 13 - unlucky for some!

Canon 500D, EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM @ 43mm, Full EXIF, PAD slideshow. I bounced a flash off the ceiling for a little more light.

I was in Baltimore today, and went to the Hard Rock Cafe for a late lunch, figuring there might be some interesting things on the wall. When I saw John Lennon's Pentax, the search was over. I have no idea why it's in Baltimore, although the room it's in is some room that was supposedly transplanted from elsewhere. Or the Beatles may have played Baltimore in the early years: Baltimore does get some pretty big musical names, to this day.

It's in a glass case, of course, which hurts the quality. I planned to go back and try with the tabletop tripod I carry in my bag, but there was a party at the table by then, and the table was loaded. I'll probably go back: maybe they'll even open the case for me.

Today's image is a commission shoot for a chap who's daughter is now working overseas, and is missing home a little. My first inclination was to take the shot (a very panoramic view) from over the balcony, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought that including a little bit of the home as well would add a new dimension to the image (warts and all). Thank goodness for my 14mm lens!

Excellent, Colin - the balcony anchors the shot beautifully, makes it much better than "just a seascape."

And very well done! The clouds paralleling the buildings are perfect. Blue sky, clouds parallel the roofline, long shadows: a great composition.

I think I don't have to say how great your botanic shots are anymore, since I did a lot of times already. But this is again a exceptional shot. What did you do for PP? It looks like a image from a biology book.

Thank you, Jeroen. The flower head is quite small - about 15mm across.The shot is made up of six manually focussed shots, stacked with Helicon. I used one of the PS scripts I have which added the faded edge, title, and black marble frame. Something a little different.

I notice how inspiration can vary from day to day. Today I cycled around until I found something worth shooting. Though I like cycling straight to an area with the shot already in my head.

Nice clouds. How did you manage to get the parallel to the houses, to me clouds never listen.

How did your camera (and you) cope with the cold?
I remember a tried the catch the sunset once at about -15 degrees. My shawl froze on the tripod when I bent over the camera but the camera was fine.
Anyone knows what temperatures cameras can handle?

Nice clouds! The blue tint look makes it feel cold. Do you drive on the left over there? I see all the cars are parked in the same direction.

Really great vision on (just) a fork you put down in your shot. The shallow DoF works very very well and I like the abstractness it shows. I would like to see about the same shot without the blue reflection in the left bottom corner.

I actually prefer my post in the day 11 thread. i've been using this surface recently as it seems to be capable of variou colour reflections depending on the light and angle.

The way you produce these shots really amazes me. As a glasses wearer focussing is always difficult especially as the lenses are varifocal.

Did you mean manual focussing when you talked of wearing glasses? I had cataract removal 2 years ago and now have lens implants, so I don't need to wear glasses apart from some reading - I can even read supermarket labels unaided. It does help with photography.
