Waddesdon Manor

This is one of the most visited Manors in Britain and this year they have a son et lumiere for the festive season. So last night we joined a few thousand others to enjoy....This is one image of many I took - thoughts on improvement to processing welcome.

I have struggled with blown highlghts, whether to bring out the shadows (eventually decided to, as the people seem to give the spectacle some depth). I have probably another hundred images, some multi-coloured like this one, some with the manor red, blue, or yellow........

The only thing I can recommend (consider that I've done little night photography) is to capture the scene earlier when the sky is still blue and has not changed so much to nearly black. The motion of the people add to the drama of the scene for me. Well done!

well done Kaye. It is a nice sharp photo, with rich colours.
I have taken a few photos at our local son et lumiere events at various times and wonder if you could eliminate most of the people (if you wanted to) by taking a longer exposure. Provided the people are moving, they will virtually vanish with a long exposure ... and I am talking somewhere in the vicinity of 15-20 seconds

It is a good colourful night-time shot of the manor, Kaye. If it were mine, I would just give it a slight clockwise rotation to make verticals vertical, and I think the shadows could even be lifted a little more - I like the ghostly figures.

Thank you all for your comments. I have looked at the PP again lightening the shadows selectively, including the sky - I think it is better....... any further thoughts C&C are welcome.

Kaye, I think that the foreground has benefited from the lightening, but there is some semi-circular banding in the sky which is more obvious now - perhaps leave the sky as it was and maybe even crop most of it out of the image?

Lovely image, beautiful and creative. I also adore the figures in the foreground. I'm leaning towards the original and/or maybe just a softer touch lightening the shadows in the foreground (only,ie; sky as is per Philip)
