    Fwiw snafu

I have always upgraded LR and PS via the "Help/check for updates" dropdown menu, as I did last
Thursday evening...didn't get around to checking things until Friday morning...PS would not open.

Linked-up with Adobe tech Friday morning...duration 4 hours...it then opened with some glitches.
Relinked for an additional 4 hours during which they un/reinstalled both LR/PS and...left a lotta
    junk on my desktop.

Relinked with my desktop again this morning...2 hours during which he fixed everything,
including all updates. Lesson learned...all tech people are not created equal.

When the techies took over for your second and third sessions, were they at escalated levels?

That's sad. I have had similar issues with Adobe techies also related to issues when both LR CC and PS CC failed to install properly. I also spent more than ten hours watching them take control of my computer. I've never had any trouble installing any of my other software including Adobe Elements, so I don't understand what Adobe's problem is when it comes to LR and PS.

It's not just Adobe - I had similar experiences with both Microsoft Office and Intel (MaAfee) software.

Wow, that sounds awful...but familiar. Not with LR/PS so much as just with tech support lines for a wide range of things.

I had some problems early on with the LR/PS CC apps that the tech support resolved without too much trouble. The only recent problems lately have been with things the techs would not help with anyway, such as the awful IMPORT interface they came up with and dropped for LR. Thankfully, they walked that back in short order. I also like the changes they've made to the PS import process. The new opening interface in PS I can do without but at least users have the option to bypass that one.

I've had two or three problems with CC, and in all cases, the techs were able to solve the problems. One of them took some time, but I'm guessing maybe an hour or 90 minutes, certainly nothing like what you experienced.

One of the reasons why I want to find an alternative to Adobe...but then we had some problems with other softwares before and allowed the wrong guys to remotely operate our computers who turned out to be hackers and wanted us to give them more money and charged Bill's account twice...then it became a criminal investigation wherein the police were called and reported the incident and they took care of those bastards for us and got our money back...all in two nights and a day! I've never let anyone remotely operate my computer again since.

For the last three years of my TV service I transfered from the film/ENG area to the videotape section and surrounded by techies I quick found that not all techies knew what they were talking about and relating some of the stories to my supervisor he was highly amused. To be fair the technical world is very complicated unlike the straight-forward creative jobs.

Greg, thanks for the link...not yet sure if it's viable in my case.
John...all to often the term "job competence" is an oxymoron.

I have had this problem ever since CS3 (which would stop working because of the anti copy feature with a fully paid for copy). Used to be told I had to uninstall and then reinstall after doing a registry cleanup with their special software.
I had no problems with CS4 or CS6, but CC is a continuous pain to update - slow to download , sorry, very very slow, often stopping part way and failing to update.
Again I have long chats with Adobe, and again I am told to unregister, uninstall, clean up and reinstall. They need to get their act together or people will question the whole basis of the subscription model.

That's true but only if the problem happens to enough people. Though it has happened to you and me, from what I can tell it's not happening to relatively many people.

More than 800,000 people signed up for Creative Cloud in just the last quarter. Half of them signed up for the entire suite of applications. Lightroom CC is the leading single-application subscription (though of course you also get Photoshop CC with it). Adobe's profits doubled compared to the same period a year ago. Adobe's customers and prospective customers are voting with their money and so far the subscription plan is an absolutely huge success.

Sounds like Adobe has fixed this issue in the latest patch (I downloaded it yesterday)
