One of the disqualifiers in Nature and Wildlife Competitions.

In this case the hand was that of a fisherman who snagged a Florida Softshell turtle and let it get away.

Mostly these hooks are made of metal which corrodes fairly quickly. But still, 'Ouch'.

True but the danger here is the line. It's a hazard in it's own right once free of the hook and if it snags underwater, the turtle can drown.

Yes that is true. Loose line is also a hazard to wildlife in and out of the water. It irritates me that many anglers do not think to pick up their discarded lengths of line from beaches locally here and I have seen many sea birds perish as a result.
