    Enjoying the morning

Taken in Kensington here in Toronto one weekend morning last summer.
To me, the scene of the man sitting and reading his paper while his dog lies there with his eyes closed basking in the warmth of the summer day made it seem as if the calendar had become stuck on a Sunday, and the reality of the work week for a time, just no longer loomed.

A pleasant photograph but toning down the dogs head and step would improve it for me.

What film scanner and software are you using? From memory (yes I remember film from years ago) agfa slide film is warm but the red in the skin tones does need adjusting. It will depend on your software as to the best approach.

The easiest solution would be to convert to monochrome as I think it is a candidate to make an excellent B&W shot.

    Paul,
    Thanks for commenting.
Scanner is a Minolta 5400, and I use Photoshop CC.
I had a similar comment about the skin tone at another site, and I made a colour-correction and de-saturated the shot as well. I'll post the new version when I get home later.

When I saw this, I also thought "black and white".

I like the "capture a moment in time" of this image.

I agree with the comments about converting this to black and white...the dog seems to have only three legs?

    Thanks Marie.
When I was playing with this in Photoshop, I tried converting it to black and white, but didn't like the result.
For me, the colours of his striped shorts (which remind me of boxer underwear) and shoes for example, add to the casual feel of the weekend.

    Nope. Four.
Front right paw tucked under collar piece, and two rear paws together.

    Marie,
Six of one, and a half dozen of the other.
As I mentioned previously, I tried the conversion when I was working on the shot in Photoshop and wasn't impressed enough with the result to keep it that way. I rather like the muted colour palette which is why I went with that version.
Still, I have an Evaluation tomorrow evening and might take this picture both ways just to get some more opinions on the two versions.

I agree with Robert that this one works best in color though I also agree with Paul that the skin tones need tweaking at least when viewing them on my calibrated monitor.

I wonder if you have an image of the fashion police that were surely rapidly approaching this guy.

    Hi, Robert,

I enjoy your picture, both in color and b/w. I like the fact that the alcove frames the picture.

I guess what I see is that this is one of those scenes that work both ways and the rest is personal preference. Whether color or black/white, it is was well seen.

    Marie
