    Looking Up

I tried to capture the beauty of the sky when these clouds were present. The results give only an approximation of the grand view had in person. I applied more effort on the B & W then I worked perhaps harder on the color PP. I prefer the B & W if I had to choose...I find it interesting that I can not articulate why.

    C&C welcome. Thanks for viewing.

Wonderful skyscape! Such sweeping patterns in the clouds!

For me it's probably because the scene represented in monochrome is more novel by virtue of the fact that I see physical scenes during the day and night in color. Secondarily to that, the color in the original really doesn't add much value to the scene and in the process detracts from all of the other characteristics that are so appealing.

Great cloudscape! Perhaps a tiny bit more foreground needed?

Hi Matt, I think that is a good suggestion. Thanks.

Sorry you cannot go back anymore...it would have been nice to have an extra foreground but you got what you got here and it is soooooooooo beautiful. I like both of them. The colour of the clouds in the coloured version looks good and the black and white emphasizes the drama without the atmosphere. Excellent job there, Sam. Love it. Must make it a habit to look up some more each day...clouds are fascinating and makes one alive...

I like the B&W original. Not much foreground needed with a sky like that.

Terrific work , I too lean towards the vast details that are emphasized particulary in the blk/wht pic.

    Re: Looking Up

Try adding a 1/4 of the foreground of the third version and make it b&w. I think that'd be about perfect.
Really like the efforts and can appreciate them a lot. I saw a sky I wanted to capture the other morning but it was gone by the time I got my camera out and situated. My only excuse is I'd just gotten up.

That's a wonderful sky you captured Sam.

I'm not sure if I prefer the colour or B&W but it may be worth considering pulling a bit more detail out of the foreground shadow. Here's a quick idea of the 'max' detail I could pull out using 'shadows' in ACR, not suggesting it needs this full amount, just an example in case you had not considered it.

You've done a good job at getting the foreground detail out. Before I posted the original I tried to do that but I the resulting noise was too much for my taste. Perhaps I'll try again. Thanks for the complements.
