Tried to add a little artistic touch to the B & W

First I saw the original one, it really wow-ed me...I like the strength of the flow of that water -- that you left it to speak for itself and not milk it down is brilliant. The second one, the strength of the water still shows but it adds more the image by its own story by your conversion...Love them both.

Have you tried to shoot your camera on the B/W mode? (or is it called monochrome?) I am dying to try that mode but haven't got around to it yet...(I am sitting here in an airplane auction this morning and cannot concentrate...) but I thought I will ask anyway...anyway, I just found this tutorial...using a Nikon camera.

I'm trying to figure out what to do regarding Mike's comment of a lack of a focal point....not to edit this picture but how to address that in future photos. It seems that the beauty of the river and all its unique details would some how compensate for a lack of a focal point...or maybe in my mind I found the center of the photo to be interesting...anyway, the silly things I think about all day. Now I am walking round thinking focal point, focal point.

Sometimes other people don't see what we saw when we snapped the shutter. As beautiful as it is it lacks the "artistic" guidelines that make it stand out. I feel that In a image like this the whole image is the focal point.

In this image I would emphasise the 'green' in the water far more and get rid of 80% of the trees. You have done a superb job of catching that powerful water action.

That is not a sea scenery where you might need a bridge for a focal point. To me that fast water is your scene and the focal point is the center. If you want, you can get one of your duck butt shot and digitally drown it in the middle of the picture...you know what I mean...? then say, that was your focal point. Something attracted you to shoot that scene or you shouldn't have taken it. What was it? Did you achieve the look you want? That is most important of all...something attracted me to look at your shot some more...it is because I can almost hear the sound of water rushing by and flowing. To my eyes your composition here is good with the position of the rocks and the water rushing to the right side like it should...the colour is good too...what else can I say?

I was dragged to go. I am not interested in it really...had to wake very early in the morning for the early viewing ... Bill went because it is his thing. I knew I was going to be bored so I brought my laptop and I am no good at an iPod/iPad thing...

Fat chance! Some guy died sometime this year and the wifey-do do not know what to do with her husband's airplanes. She is one of those women married to a pilot who also do not have any interest in airplanes, most women I know married to pilots are like us...barely go to the airport. We have other interests. Let the boys play with their toys. They go home when they are hungry anyway... or when it time to go to bed...

Hi Grahame, thanks for your comments. I tried to incorporate them in the update below. I needed to leave more of the trees in than what you had suggested. So it looked to me if I kept a few whole trees near the shore line they would integrate better into the image. I did adjust the green (really aqua) a bit to the point were I could believe the color was not too saturated. I also increased the sharpening on output. Thanks for your help.
