took a shot of swans in the fog, their white bodies seemed to glow, is this reflection from fog?

Perhaps show us the photo? Might be able to give better advice then.

    Good question

    SDChester,

I suspect you used TinyPic and didn't complete the full process, have a look here and step 6 and onwards.

If that isn't the problem, please let me know what you did and I'll try to assist from there.

If that was the problem, don't worry, it regularly catches new people out and each time, I try to make the instructions even more explicit.

    Hope that helps,

No idea what causes it, but it's not just the swans: look at the dark posts, they have a dark aura around them, and a clearer band just inside the contour (about as wide as the swan ghosting)

Glad the image is sorted, now we can see the effect ...

I think Peter is on the right track.

I would suspect a very slightly misted lens or filter, possibly exascerpated by not using a lens hood, because I think this is flare. It doesn't help that the swans are well over exposed.

    Cheers,

1 ) Possibly your lens, or if you have filter on your lens, must have very thin layer of MIST over it when this shot was taken.

2 ) This can also happen if your lens has FUNGUS, but in that case in your other pictures also you will notice that if person is wearing white cloths, or bright coloured cloths they will also have this kind of Glow effect. If that is not happening, than this is due to reason no. 1. only

The effect used to be known as "soft focus", usually achieved by a filter on the lens-front. It was used a lot for portrait photography.

The difference between soft- and "out of" focus is that the highlights spread into the shadows, rather than the other way round. it's still quite an effective way of softening an image, and easily done in software.

I think the mist on lens is correct,i was wiping the lens off during the shoot!
