    Re: Church (soon)

I don't belong to the church, but I have heard that the leveling and concrete pad were provided at cost. The structure, so far, is all donated material as is the labor. The contractor for the metal work donates 4 man days per week, selecting volunteers from his crews. They get paid their regular wages, but still have to volunteer for that jobsite, just because. The church members also donate time and effort on the jobsite, but are not allowed to work on the structural stuff.

The job looks very similar to the pictures I took two weeks ago, unless you look closely. Under normal job strictures, they would be finished with the structural and siding by now and have the interior just about done, also. Much of the time in the past couple of weeks has been in removing rust and scale from donated structural beams and such. That was why it was donated. It had been stored at a closed jobsite for a couple of years and was not taken care of properly. It was all safe and strong, just ugly.

Yes Steve; more detail in both the building and the sky, get doesn't lack punch or look 'flat'.

I don't think I have ever seen a pit head that shape before.

Cheers Dave; this PP is a bit time consuming but I've got thousands of images. The pit is a very old one at Butterley Midland Railway Museum.

I'm kind of partial to #2, Steve.

    Very nice shot.

If you would please excuse my ignorance? What is the "pit"? Can't say I've ever seen anything like that.

It is a coal mine; a very deep hole even a couple of thousand feet deep to reach fossilised wood seams, which sometimes run for miles from the lift.

So then the wheel is for foisting stuff out of the hole?

Presumably buckets or containers of mined coal?

Miners and stuff. Actually I've only been down a modern mine and the lift was used for people and you would be amazed at the size of it; I didn't think to ask how they got the coal out, presumably the same way.

    I found this

    Hi Terry,

This rock must really glow at sunrise and sunset. I love harsh terrains. Where did you take this?

    Hi Paul,

Good vision there. I like the diminishing DOF and the overlap of the handles. I would have though they might be at different angles. I assume the handles snap back to a set position if not used.
