    Dropped D7200...UGHH

    Hi All,

Well I feel sick. I was getting ready to take some Christmas photos tonight and setting up my D7200 on my Tripod. I extended and locked all the legs, but one...and it was the front one.

The camera with SB700 fell forward and crashed to the ground. The flash broke at the mount and the camera came apart at the joint between the top and the main body. It happens, but still sick. My fault totally and need to be more vigilant in the future. I will capture Christmas Photos with my iPhone. What I am worried more about is that I am heading to the US for a weeks vacation and unlikely I will have the Camera back by then...I am not sure yet. I leave on 01.01.2016.

My other question is that I purchased the camera in the US, I assume I can have it serviced in Europe? This is not a warranty repair by any means.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Right now it looks like I will be renting a camera for my trip to the US.

    Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

    Erik

I am so sorry, Erik. I don't know if saw my posts a couple of months ago, when I reported dropping my Canon 5DS and 11-24 f4L lens and the lens sheared from the body, leaving all the mount inside the camera. Fortunately I was covered by insurance.

All I can do is extend my sympathy. I do know how it feels.

    Erik,

Sorry to hear about your camera. Where did you register the camera, I assume on the Nikon website? If it's registered I would go through the Nikon website and they will point you towards the most convenient location.

My sympathies. Have you considered researching camera rental at your vacation destination? Or, if you're visiting friends/family, maybe they could do an internet equipment rental from some place like lensrentals.com for you? That way, it won't matter how long the repair takes, and you'll still be covered with dSLR gear (or whatever mirrorless you want to play with ;-) on your visit.

BigE sorry to hear that, Nikon customer service is the craps, if you purchase here (NA) and were to have any trouble in Europe they will not service as it was purchased in NA. Suggest that you send to Nikon Europe for service and if possible rent one from a European renter, however you are really short on time.

    Cheers: Allan

Sorry to hear that Erik... but you are not alone. Many of us (me included) have killed a camera because of our own mistakes.

    Enjoy your trip!

Ouch! Erik -- you did a Donald! but Donald is luckier -- this big trip is somewhere in September 2016 not as close as yours is...my condolence. I really feel for you...

Thanks Everyone..already placed the rental order from LensRental.com for D7200 and 35mm f/1.4 for the trip (already had the 18-55mm f/2.8 reserved). Really not choice in the matter at this poijnt, I am not going to rent a flash and go without in this case.

Submitted request to Nikon.de to see what to do net for repairs. Frustrating to say the least, I just need to be more vigilant in the future. Live and learn.

Sent in camera today to Nikon, we will see how long it takes to get back.

On the plus side, I reserved a camera and additional lens from LensRental.com this week. Today I received a notification that they would combine my new order with the order placed on Black Friday. Keep in mind I rented only a single lens on Black Friday and was able to receive 25% discount.

When they combined both orders, I did not see the discount on the new combined order. So I called and told them the situation and asked them if they would honor the discount for the entire order...even though some of the items were not ordered on Black Friday. In short they did....great service and a customer for life now.

Put in a request to Nikon on their website and was sent a link to fill out service request. Afterwards, it gave me return authorization with pre paid label to Frankfurt. Not expecting to hear anything until New Year, but at least the process is moving.

That's good to hear that it can be repaired locally.
