    Re: Evening Colour

    Hi, Kit;

Very moody colors, interesting in the distance.

Maybe crop everything from just left of the lone tree/bush that's now in the left center? That way the gap would pull one's eyes into the distant hills. As it is now, that lone tree seems to just act as a brake, and I can't get past it. Or maybe you wanted to focus on it: if so, maybe crop out the line of trees on the right?

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Re: Patch work

I like this a lot, António: lots of great textures and lines. Maybe it could be rotated a bit CW? Or maybe the lean helps it feel decrepit.

    Cheers,
    Rick

Re: Day 16 - Time Shift!

Fantastic, Rob. I'll guess a slinky? I like the second one better. In the first, I get the sense that the subject is interacting with the frame, perhaps only because some of the coils at the perimeter are aligned with the sides. And I don't like that as well: a matter of taste, obviously.

    Cheers,

    Hi, Jeroen;

Beautiful shot, another great composition. The dead tree leading into the shot is perfect.

    Cheers,

    "Film"? What's "film"?

Whatever it is, it does really nice compositions of flowers.

INFORMAL POLL: how to make comments

Not really a poll, but see what people say.

I've generally been making each comment a discrete post, to have a "Re: whatever" subject, but I have grouped some, and I see others often grouping.

Is it easier to read/make comments:

    1: In separate posts.
    2: Bunched together.
3: Leave me alone, I'm stressed enough trying to get a photo each day.
I'll go along with what people find easier.

    Cheers,
    Rick

I think it's better bunched together, otherwise it can get confusing. But you need to get the names right - we seem to have a few Steves!

    Hi Rick,

Thanks! I didn't put the string in there though (per sec) ... that's the "string" I always have attached (I need them so much these days I just leave them hanging around my neck).

If the comment is relatively short then "all in one post" is good (in my unofficial opinion) ... for more extensive answers I like to use seperate posts though.

I agree with Donald absolutely excellent.
Q? what on earth did you use. And if it was a slinky I want one like yours!

    A Favourite Thing

This little statue of Kuan Yin is nothing special in itself but its one of my favourite things.

    Re: Illuminating

I friend of mine has a series of the interior laser etched decorations in his shop. I've wanted to photograph them for some time and finally found him unbusy enogh to take a few shots. I know it is not lighted properly and that the backdrop in incorrect, but I wanted a few to get a feel for it. You will be seeing more as I get more chances.

The etched figures are 3-dimensional. As you rotate the container, you see the golfer in all angles, including looking at the top of her head.

I tend to bunch them for expediency - saves making extra posts and it's generally getting late-ish by the time I get here, but I don't really mind what others do. I do appreciate your comments though - you are good to put the extra effort in.

Re: Clouds and Roofs, A Favourite Thing, Laser Etched, The Long Stretch

Dave, I like your something different. The bright spot over the highest peak makes a nice off-center focus, makes it dynamic, I think.

James, the Kuan Yin image is very well done. Having the backdrop draped rather than flat so that it echoes the robe on the statue works very well, and the bit of reflection at the bottom is very nice.

Pops, I see that a different backdrop could highlight the figure better, but it looks pretty good from here. An interresting challenge: we're always trying to convert a 3D to a 2D image, but converting a 3D image to a 2D image will be different.

Chriss, this is a great "road goes on and on" shot, nice composition. Maybe try it in B&W, since it's sort of a drab day with low colors?

    Cheers,
    Rick

    Rick thanks,
I'll let you into a secret, I messed up. (I'll blame PAD and rushing things )
I had nothing to create a black backdrop so I ended up improvising and using a black shirt I have.

I'd like to take the 'creative' credit, but this time round it was more luck than control!
