Nicely captured, did he pose or was this a quick capture? I ask because the shading from the brim created a challenging exposure.

Thanks, John. This was quick capture and the brim and harsh light caused lots of problems. Later I shot a few posed shots, but they don't have the look of this one.

    Hi Dean,

Did you use a bit of fill flash on the posed shots? That would help with the shadows.

No flash, only camera and 35mm lens (50mm equiv.)

I would love to have the time to really work with a model, usually I only get a few minutes and have to work out any difficulties very quickly. I don't like using the on-camera flash but sometimes it's necessary. I really should start carrying my off-camera flash, I only have the SB-R200 and it can be a bit awkward handholding, I really must upgrade one day.

I too would like spend more time, but there are some time constraints when I get to shoot. I have two Fuji flashes, very small, easily carried, but seldom have them with me.

And I still have to learn flash properly...don't like the onboard camera flash and don't really use them unless it is with my semi-point and shoot. Anyway, I like the pose of this guy, there is a certain look about him, a bit stiff, don'tyou think?

Yes, Izzie, he is a bit stiff, but that's the way he is.
