I like the shadow treatment on the first image, second is a bit too stark and crowded. Nice concept.

I agree with John that the first picture is the stronger of the two.
My only criticism is your shadow in the shot, which I'd like to see removed to simplify and clean up the composition.
If you do that and then crop the shot on the left to remove most of the foliage and sky, it would be a much stronger image.

I think shadows are an excellent subject to explore in photography. But to make shadows the subject I think you have to make compositions that clearly show that the shadow is the focal point of the image; the main subject of interest. If you google 'images of shadows' you will see examples of what I mean.
In these images it is not clear whether the shadow or the person whose body is making the shadow, is the main point of interest.
But I think this is fascinating area of interest to pursue and develop.
