    Architectural Black-and-White

Be glad that, unlike the case of almost all of my photos, I have absolutely nothing to say about this one.

Nice capture, I'd crop above the sign just to make it all about the design.

I can see why you shot it and why you included as much of the structure as you have Mike - but John is right - I spent the first 30 seconds trying to work out the country it was shot in from the words and guessing the language on the sign (and I got that wrong assuming this was another shot in the locale of your car repairer).

    Thanks, guys!

The problem is that after cropping to eliminate the sign, there's no image that works for me. Though the image as I presented it will never be on a magazine cover, it does work for me.

Yep, I'd agree with that, although that sign is pain in the .....!

It would be a PITA but with some judicious PP, you could get rid of the sign and add the peak.

I thought I would remove the sign ...
First step rotate the image by 70 degrees right and this permits the use of the rectangular selection tool to copy the left hand vertical beam.
This needs to be filled with tone picked up from the left and flood filled while on a separate layer. increased in size by 120%, duplicated and arranged to cover the sign.
Ended up with a bit of eerasure of the beam layers to reveal the flanges holding the beam in the original layer.

I didn't complete the exercise as it is not my file
So Mike you can have your cake and eat it with a bit of work [ and PSP ]

Perhaps the reason the sign doesn't bother me as much as you folks is that the scene epitomizes the effective results of an architect who has designed something attractive enough to make a photo of it while also using signage that is very important because of the purpose of the building itself.

Sorry Mike ... I probably didn't read the thread properly ... I thought you didn't like the sign.
Though I'd be suprised if the sign was by the architect, it may fit the purpose of the building but it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Looks like a standard sign slapped on the beam.
I also wonder at the peak of the roof being chopped.

I spent nine years selling services for printing the design documents prepared by architects and engineers who design buildings and this is an example of the signage that is designed by the very same people who designed the building. In fact, the company I worked for printed the design documents for this exact building and I was personally responsible for keeping the company that designed and built the building happy; the client was my account. The building is part of a subway station (though the train at this point is above ground rather than below ground). So, I can very clearly confirm that everything about this building including the signage was designed as one package from the ground up.

it may fit the purpose of the building but it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I disagree on your latter point. That explains why I included it in the photo.

It is the final effect that counts Mike and somebody in the design office screwed up I think
I thought it might be a light rail station but didn't recognise the places.
    Nice building all the same.

I guess I'm the odd one out... I actually like the sign in the photo. Makes it feel more documentary to me.
